SoAD Ceramics Teaching Collections

The School of Art and Design Ceramics Teaching Collections at ECU are comprised of over 2,000 ceramic objects donated by Dwight M. Holland, M. Pepper Fluke, James R. Henderson, Benjamin F. Keaton, Lawrence W. S. Auld, and various artists from the Baltic states. They represent some of the very best and nationally recognized North Carolina potters, as well as internationally-known ceramic artists from around the world. It is considered one of the most comprehensive collections of ceramic work for academic institutions in the United States.

The School of Art and Design unveiled a new home for the significant Ceramics Teaching Collections in November 2018, marking the 20th anniversary of Mr. Holland’s first gift given to ECU. The main collections are housed in Jenkins Fine Arts Center Room 114, named “Dwight M. Holland Ceramics Classroom” in his honor.
