Thinking Through Making
Innovative Thinkers, Distinguished Makers
The School of Art and Design at East Carolina is a community, where ideas, creativity, and innovation collide. You will be propelled to experiment and push the boundaries of a traditional making experience at the School of Art and Design. Through research and critical thinking, medium exploration, investigation, and intensive critique you will develop and refine your creative, conceptual, and technical skills.
2025 Juried Undergraduate Exhibition
The School of Art and Design is excited to welcome artist Dare Coulter as the juror for this year’s undergraduate exhibition. Dare Coulter’s art is a space for joy and reflection. She is an internationally award-winning sculptor, muralist, and illustrator who focuses primarily on depictions of black families and people. Dare creates imagery that reflects the fullness and vibrancy of the black cultural experience. She most recently won the Coretta Scott King Book award for her illustrations in Kwame Alexander’s “An American Story,” and is pursuing her dream of creating monumental sculptures to black joy all over the world.
Save the Date! Thursday October 23 beginning at 5 pm in 1220 Jenkins, juror Dare Coulter will give an artists’ talk, followed by an announcement of award winners and a reception in the Gray Gallery. Please join us! This event is free and open to the public.
