Rebekah Ryan

BFA ’20 Illustration

It feels like I’ve bounced around quite a lot in terms of trying to discover myself as an illustrator. Nothing has felt like home; there’s an itch underneath my skin and it feels like I will never get rid of it. My development as an artist over the past four years was a lot of me throwing things at the wall just to see what would stick. As it turned out, my work became the visual representation of me wrestling with the two different artistic voices I have; one playful, whimsical and the other eerie and occult-like. Both of these voices have been apart of me, as an artist and as a human being, for so long but I never realized it until it was given time and support to grow. My work houses a special part of me, with every piece asking the audience “Can you feel it too?”
