Environment art is about building worlds more than assets. World-building has always had its limits, but the progression of technology is pushing that line farther and farther back. The more immersive 3D video games become, the more of an escape we can build. These new worlds allow people to step out of their reality, for fun and excitement. We are creating a safe space for people from all walks of life.
People have always been curious creatures and spent decades exploring our world. As technology progresses, there is less and less of our society to discover. Instead, we have begun building new worlds for ourselves and others to explore. 3D video game technology is becoming the most immersive sense of world-building and exploration that we have ever had. Building digital worlds as a source of exploration and wonder that many adults seem to be missing, and an escape capitalizing on the sublime provides us with what many people have lost in their day to day lives.

3D Modeling for 3D Printing
2020
Digital 3D models, resin, paint, beads
This project focused on 3D modeling for the intent of producing a line of jewelry. The jewelry has an earthy and ‘beachie’ feel to it because it was designed for my mother. During my third year of college, my mother found out she was allergic to all metals except platinum. Even leather and beaded jewelry have metal rivets or clasps. Jewelry is a form of expression that most of us take for granted. I have been 3D printing for almost three years now, and after my mom’s diagnosis, I bought a resin printer. Since then, I have been working to build a series of fun, lightweight jewelry. The final results are a compilation of design, functionality, and experimentation.

Wet Plate Camera

3D Model built in Maya and Substance Painter
Camera modeled from on an online antique posting of
a wet plate camera as practice for replication.
Because the camera was an antique, there was a focus on
the dust and damage that makes 3D objects feel both real and old.
