MFA Alum Barbara McFadyen featured in the Spring 2019 Enamelist Society Newsletter
Metalsmith Barbara McFadyen is featured in the Spring 2019 newsletter of The Enamelist Society. McFadyen’s work, a brooch title Cherish (2017) was featured on the cover, with an accompanying article by The Enamel Arts Foundation about her work as well as a workshop she taught in October, 2018, at Yamawaki Art College in Tokyo, Japan. Also included in the newsletter is an article by McFadyen her research of late 18th century eye miniatures called “Lovers Eyes.” Her article discusses the emergence and evolution of the tradition of miniature eye paintings that flourished during the Georgian era, from 1770-1830. These unique miniature works of art came to symbolize mourning and were an expression of grief for a lost loved one.
