Catherine Walker has taught at ECU since 1991. Catherine is British and attended the Central School of Art and Design in London, England before coming to East Carolina University where she completed her BFA and MFA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and regionally.

She is particularly interested in creating work in a series, that develops visually and conceptually over a period of time, months to years. Working in multiple layers, images are reproduced and added to, hiding and revealing ghost impressions of previous states. The use of text is frequently incorporated and hidden (but findable) to combine with the imagery of toys, letters, tools, plants & significant objects or places.  About memory and human communication in all of its quirkiness, appeal and cruelty, the combined text and imagery result in a visual diary or journal that may be viewed as individual pieces or in groups of several works creating more of a narrative effect.
