My journey into clay began with my Ceramics Survey class at ECU in 1975 or ’76. Given the freedom to explore my growing interest in the medium by my professors Art Haney and Chuck Chamberlain, the groundwork was laid for me to continue on, after receiving my BFA, to pursue my MFA at the University of Iowa. Today, I find myself still making work out of clay, and have been able to surround myself with peer mentors (Chris Gustin, Jeff Shapiro, etc.) to deepen my interest and knowledge in the exploration of wood firing and the Japanese aesthetic.
