Heather Lewis
Graduated 2000

After her fiance died unexpectedly, Lewis found articulating the grieving process was out of the realm of vocabulary. One can speak of anger and happiness, and others know how that feels through experience. The feelings of grief cannot be explained so easily. Looking towards writers whose use of words resonated with her experience, she could visualize their words through images in her mind. Instead of limiting her voice through vocabulary and narrative, she seeks to show someone what grieving feels like through photography, collage and 2D and 3D manipulation of the artifacts left in her fiance’s absence– his textbooks, photos, his comb, his favorite chair.
