Michael H. Duffy
Michael Duffy specializes in European Art History and regularly teaches courses on Eighteenth Century Art, Nineteenth Century Art, and 19th & 20th Century Design History. Duffy’s major area of research is French realist and impressionist painting of the middle and late 19th century. His book, The Influence of Charles-François Daubigny (1817-1878) on French Plein Air Landscape Painting: Rustic Portrayals of Everyday Life in the Work of a Forerunner to Impressionism (Mellen Press), was published in January 2011. He is currently working on a book that deals with the proto-impressionist aesthetics and modernist subjects of the French landscape and marine painter Eugène Boudin. He is especially interested in the methodologies of social and cultural art history.
