Computers & Information Technology

There are a variety of resources on camps available to support your teaching and research. Please note that the School does not have a dedicated computer technician on staff in the main office.

ITCS Help Desk – Call the help desk to submit or report outages, password issues, desktop requests, networking, phone, software installs, computer lab issues. 328-9866 or submit a ticket online at ITCS Help Desk.

Walk-In ITCS Help Desk (Austin 103) — OPSCAN machine for grading exams, poster printing for research and conferences, on-site passphrase resets, converting videos from VHS to DVD, computer drop off and pick up area for the desktop support team, and email support for mobile devices.

Classroom Technology – If there is a technology issue in a classroom, call the number on the podium 328-9830 and be prepared to provide your name, room number and a brief description of the problem. An ITCS consultant will be dispatched to the location. The response time goal for east campus is 10 minutes or less.

Classroom Technology Training – Contact Adam Brewer, brewera@ecu.edu, 737.5167

Computer Labs – Submit a service request if you need Computer Lab Hardware/Software Quotes and Consultations or if you have questions and need assistance with Computer Lab Hardware/Software Support.

Educational Technologies Support (Blackboard, Lynda.com, SabaMeeting, etc.) – The most efficient way to request support is to submit a service request at the ITCS Help Desk.  Each technology platform has a unique service request form and the full list can be found at the Educational Technologies Service Catalog. Multiple staff monitor and respond to the queues for each learning platform, this ensures each request is tracked within the ITCS Help Desk and not missed if an educational technologies administrator is out of the office.

IT Accessibility – ECU is committed to providing accessible technology and educational resources. Request an IT Accessibility Consultation to learn how to develop accessible content, including: instructional materials, Microsoft Office files, web pages, and announcements.

Multimedia and Animation Requests – Submit a Multimedia and Animation Services request if you need a custom solution to meet instructional objectives. Staff are also available for consultation to provide guidance getting started with a project.

Pirate Techs Student Computing Support Center has three walk-in locations where students can request help with network connectivity, mobile email setup, Microsoft software installation, virus/Trojan horse issues, spyware/malware infections and more. Pirate Techs is a certified, full-service repair center for Dell, Lenovo and Apple computers with limited hardware support for most other computers.  Visit the Pirate Techs website for locations, hours, and more services.

Funding & Awards

Travel

Annually the School offers funding for faculty to travel for exhibition openings, to present posters and papers, conduct research, recruit students, and more. At the beginning of the fall semester the Director announces the call for travel requests. Faculty can submit requests for funding to support travel during 2019/2020 academic year, which runs July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, by September 15, 2019. At that time the Director allocates the year’s travel funding and notifies faculty of their award amounts.

If you anticipate travel during the academic year, but do not know which location or conference you will attend, please submit a request with a description of the conferences you are considering, noting that you are awaiting notification to determine your final destination.

If a travel opportunity arises after September 15, 2019, please submit a request for travel funding. If there are remaining travel funds, the Director will notify you of an award.

Please note that if you plan to travel for business purposes you MUST submit a travel request, even if you ARE NOT receiving any funding. This is a university policy.

SoAD Faculty Awards

Each spring the Director announces a call for School of Art and Design Faculty Awards for the coming academic year. These awards are competitive and based on funding availability. Previous awards have funded creative activity, research travel, conference attendance, and more.

CFAC Faculty Awards

Policies

Annual Conflict of Interest

All ECU employees are required to complete an annual Conflict of Interest form. You can access the AIR system through PiratePort.

External Activities for Pay

If you earn income from any outside activities (consulting, freelance work, sales of artwork) you must report these activities PRIOR to beginning them. Please complete the External Activities for Pay (EPAP) form.

Faculty Absences

If you unable to work, please following these procedures when an absence impacts instructional and/or other School obligations.

To report a planned absence, email the Director (bukoskik16@ecu.edu) with brief details on the reason for the absence and arrangements you have made to cover instructional activities or other obligations impacted by the absence. Planned time away from School (ex. conference, exhibition opening) should be reported at least one week in advance.

To report an unexpected absence due to sudden illness or other unforeseen situation, call the Main Office (252 328-6665) and leave a message including your name, the name of the class impacted by the absence, and brief instructions for students. As soon as practical, send an email or Blackboard notice to your students with instructions.

Avoid scheduling time away from the School at the beginning or end of a semester. Specifically, faculty must be available one week prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Nine-month faculty contracts run from August 15 through May 15.
