Juror

Dare Coulter is an internationally-award winning artist, muralist, and sculptor, and the 2024 Coretta Scott King Illustrator book Award for her work on Kwame Alexander’s “An American Story.” Her mission for her artwork is primarily to create positive imagery of black people and families. Her most notable work includes a 200ft mural in Greensboro, North Carolina honoring often overlooked black cowboys, and a commissioned painting of Nina Simone from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and a vibrant, colorful, larger-than-life public art installation at Durham, North Carolina’s iconic Wheels Fun Park. Dare’s children’s books have landed on several notable book lists including NPR, Publisher’s Weekly, and New York Times’ best books of the year.
